Richmond WEP ending VAWG

  Hello and thank you all for coming to join us this evening.   We meet here on the first Monday of every month to remember the UK women who have been killed by men.   This is the 23 rd time we have met now, prompted by the murder of Sarah Everard on 3 March 2021 . We hoped that the high profile nature of that case would have prompted the press and politicians to take this social epidemic seriously and try to shine a light on the root causes. Sadly that hasn’t been the case.   We’ve been reading a new report that highlight the horrible statistics in this area and also look at the roots causes and we’re hoping to work with the author – Polly Newall – to raise awareness across the board.   The report repeats the dreadful statistic we know that 3 women a week are killed on average, but also looks at some of the details behind that headline:   1 in 5 women in the UK have been the victim of a sexual attack, 1 in 4 have been or are victims of domestic abuse and 70% of th

  Hello and thank you all for coming to join us this evening.     This is the 22 nd time we have met here now, every month since September 2021.   18 women reported killed since we last met – 15 of them in the 31 days in May – 1 every 2 days!!!   26 April 2023: Elise Mason, 37, died after she was found unresponsive at an address in Chelmsford, Essex. Mark Donovan, 38, has been charged with murder.   30 April 2023: Suma Begum, 24, was reported missing from an address in Tower Hamlets, London. Aminan Rahman, 45, has been charged with murder.   1 May 2023: Johanita Dogbey, 31, was stabbed to death on Stockwell Park Walk in Brixton. Mohamed Nur, 33, has been charged with her murder, possession of an offensive weapon and causing GBH to three people.   2 May 2023: Maya Devi, 77, was found suffering head injuries at her home in Elm Park, Essex.
